I'm sitting here between two large piles of paper... one is a stack of Smart Source and Red Plum coupon inserts the other are adds for all my local grocery stores. In the middle is me and my husbands laptop. Back in the saddlllllle againnnnnnnnnn...
I used to be good at this. Couponing. I used to be so good that I would teach friends and family how. I used to have bins in my closets full of shampoo, conditioner, soaps, deoterants, toothpaste... OOHH the toothpaste! And the space above my kitchen cabinets looked like an old country store. Bottles of windex, jars of ragu, and boxes of cereal all stacked 5 or 6 deep.
But then life happened. I started the adoption process and my time on Money Saving Mom was replaced time on the Reeces Rainbow forum. Instead of printing coupons I was printing dossier documents. And oh yes, I was pregnant and morning sick too... the thought of food... not pretty. So Jake took over the family grocery shopping, I gave up my "couponing" and haven't looked back.
Until now. We looked at our budget last week and we spend more on groceries than we do our mortgage. YIKES. But in my own defense, we NEVER eat out for dinner (have you ever seen... or heard... my family at a restaurant?! lol), and it includes what some people call "target stuff". Diapers, cleaning products, make-up, etc. etc. But still. I used to get make-up for free at CVS. Target practically paid ME to buy diapers.
Anyway, its time to start savin' the moolah again. I used to "do" Publix, Kroger, Target and CVS. But for now, I'm starting with Target. Because its the closest to me and they have lots of store coupons that can be stacked with mfr's. I just made my list. I've got my stack of coupons paper clipped to it. I'm gonna go tomorrow while Jake is home with the kids. It feels good to be doing this again. Wish me luck!!
I just went to a class on how to "do it" the coupon thing. I never knew...... its quite overwhelming since I really dont enjoy shopping. SO the first week I just did the KMart thing. They had double coupons for that week. It was great and I had to clear out a shelf in the hall closet for the extra stuff we will eventually use. I just get all squeamish about doing all the stores. (I even ordered subscriptions to the newspaper to have 2 copies of each coupon- they had a special. And I am highly allergic to the newspaper! Ha ha!)Have you seen the blogs where the ladies actually do all that work for you? Tell you which coupons to stack and who has what on sale..... mind boggling for girls like me. I just wish someone would take me by the hand and show me.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Yes, I go to www.southernsavers.com the most... they've got some great Target deals that I don't usually find listed other places like MoneySavingMom or FaithfulProvisions. Some of these sites list the "best deals" and some of them have every single deal and every single coupon... THAT gets a little overwhelming!!
