It started last Saturday evening. We were hangin' out at home and the girls were playing in the toy room (soon to be the boys' room), when we hear Emily whining about some toy. So then we hear Ashley say "OH RIGHT... you're SUCH a whiny BABY". The next thing we heard was a bonk (the best way I can describe it) and Ashley came running out of the room with blood streaming down her face, SCREAMING. Jake jumped into gear, scooped her up and cleaned off her face and newly acquired 1/2 inch cut on Ashley's forehead. And I took Emily off to talk to her and find out what exactly had happened. The weapon of choice? A wooden puzzle.
Praise God, some friends of ours were already on their way over. One of them just graduated a few weeks ago... he's a registered nurse! So he grabbed a bag out of his car and bandaged her all up. Thank you Kory!! Our friends stayed at the house with Emily and Abby so Jake and I could take Ashley to the ER.

She did okay at the ER I guess... it did take four of us to hold her down. And she pretty much screamed through the whole thing... anything she could to get them to stop. Some of my favorites were "WHY ARE YOU BEING SO MEAN TO ME?!?!", "I'm HOT, I'm SWEATING, LET ME GO!!!", and "THIS ISN'T NICE!!!" She was so pitiful I didn't know if I was going to laugh or cry. When it was done, I may have given in to the latter. Jake did great, he talked her through most of it, doing his best to calm her down. They had to hold her arms up over her head and her face was covered with a huge tissue kind of paper that had one little hole so they could do the stitches. She was NOT happy about any of it. :( This picture was taken on the way back home. The shiny part is the glue.
But she lived and we took her home. From now on she will probably be a little more careful how she talks to Emily. :) So then Sunday night, we had just put the kids to bed when Emily comes running out of her room, right up to me, clutching her chest and says "I just swallowed a magnet." Great. So after a call to the pediatrician at home and the poison control center, I put her in the van and took her to the ER, while Jake stayed home with the other two.

The difference between Ashley and Emily sitting in that little chair in triage was absolutely comical. Now granted, Ashley was in a lot of pain, but those two girls couldn't be more different. Ashley was shy and timid, Emily was a chatterbox. Ashley would barely move unless we physically moved her, Emily wouldn't sit still if I paid her. Ashley held her poor forehead in pain, Emily sat with her legs crossed at the knee like she was at a business interview. My girls crack me up.

So for Emily's visit, they took one quick Xray which showed us that the magnet had successfully moved through her esophagus and into her stomach. They are saying it should pass quickly. (No sign of it yet.) We were on our way home within a couple of hours.
(All of these pictures were taken with my phone because my camera is broken. But that's another story....)
So any sign of the magnet??? JoJo swallowed a magnetix ball a few months ago & we ended up with a night in the hospital & an endoscopy the following morning to remove it because it would not pass. Poor fellow had severe abdominal pain & vomiting. Thank God for insurance!!! Hope it makes an appearance soon:)
