HOW?

Q: How do you teach a newly adopted four year old nonverbal Ukrainian boy with Down Syndrome NOT TO TAKE A POOPY PULL UP OFF when he wakes up at the crack of dawn?

It. Is. Just. Nasty. Its happened so many times, that room will just never smell right again.

  1. Put him in a onesie in addition to his pjs. He will probably take that off too, but you could try it.:) If he does, you could try a one piece leotard. I've been there, it's gross!:)

  2. spandex pants? onesie shirt? duct tape? wish I had better ideas for you. I can imagine that must be frustrating. and nasty. I dont envy you. maybe a trash can in his room would help? put a picture of pull ups on the trashcan and tell him pullups go in the trashcan?

  3. I know absolutely nothing about Ds. But the thought crossed my mind that maybe he could have a light switch that would start a twinkling lamp (no noise!) by your bedside? I mean, I understand that he wants the pull up off, it's uncomfortable :-)

  4. Oh no! We put a plastic cloth diaper cover over Darah's diaper at night...to prevent overflow because she's a night-time pooper as well. Micah may be able to take those off, though...but D's not able to, thankfully!!

  5. We had to cut the feet off of footed pj's and put them on backwards...works like a charm :)

  6. Carters makes a pajama that the shirt snaps to the bottoms. This may help him not get it off (at least not as fast!)
