Ok so why didn't I think of a onsie?! Great idea guys! See I knew you all would come through for me! ;) Actually I think I'll combine the idea's and do a plastic diaper cover (to hold in the "excess" which there is a lot of) and onsie or snap-together PJs over it. And if Houdini back there can break out of that, I'll definitely try the backwards-pjs-zipped-up-with-the-feet-cut-out idea. I totally forgot that a friend of mine did that with one of her daughters she adopted from China.
And of course all of this is really just to keep him "sealed up" until we can come in and change him. Which wouldn't be long because SERIOUSLY: when Micah drops a load we can smell it DOWN THE HALL with both doors closed! Its that bad. But he's just so quick to strip it off because, of course, he doesn't want it on him. And if it gets on his hands, which it inevitably does, he wipes it all over the room (bed, carpet, walls, etc.) to get it off. GROSS.
I'm gonna take him back to the pediatrician soon to talk about the sheer volume and smell.... something cannot be right. I've been trying to give him stuff to stop him up a little more but to NO avail. Some friends have suggested a pro-biotic which is probably a really good idea. A multivitamin with iron helps too when I remember to give it to him.
Also, I want to add that we do plan on potty training really soon. We just wanted to give him some good adjustment time after he came home and then knowing the baby was coming and I'd be nursing all the time... we decided to wait until later in the fall- to give it full attention. Kind of set him up for success instead of half-way potty training.
All that said- you know you're a mom when you sit and write a whole long blog post (two actually) about POOP. And only a real mom would sit down and read the whole thing! I love you guys!!! Thanks again for the tips!!!
Ugh, the SMELL is something awful isn't it???? We tease that the KGB did not understand the full potential of Alex because he can clear our whole house out in a matter of seconds! LOL
ReplyDeleteBTW I think the doctor thinks I'm getting back at him by making them test stool samples.....he keeps coming back negative but my goodness it is one ripe smelling diaper!!!
Alex is pretty much potty trained now but I swear that the child pooped to get out of his crib at the orphanage. That is why he doesn't touch his bed w/o a good diaper on!
Amy, have you tried either of the international docs in town. They might test for something a reg. ped. might not be so aware of in his poop. Patrick had some SMELLY poo when he first came home, but he is all better now. Now our thing is to make sure it stays loose and we have meds for that, but I would consider at least going to get the stool checked again. I can give you our guy's name if you want. It's a bit of a drive for you, but if it's still smelling that strong, it may be worth it!!
ReplyDeleteTo keep the hands out, a onesie with tighter shorts under it also works when they figure out how to reach under the onesie! Also if you need onesies bigger then those sold in stores, this place is great.

Lyndi, no we haven't done that... I'll call you soon to get that number. I'd love to talk to them, that would be great.
ReplyDeleteAli, thanks for the tip!! I was definitely wondering if I was gonna be able to find a 3T onsie... thanks for the site!!!
Well, I want to know what the doc says about the volume and smell thing, 'cause Charlie's poo is SO GROSS! It almost smells of amonia, but in a gross pooey kind of way. Charlie's bm's used to be normal until he got Rotavirus last winter, and they have been disgusting ever since.
ReplyDeleteOh ya, and Charlie never sleeps in anything but jammies with onsie tops (which are getting hard to find in his size) or zip up feet jammies!
Kim... Oh no! Yeah I'll keep you guys updated on what the doctor says. :)
ReplyDeleteI have been following your blog since before bringing Micah home.
ReplyDeleteThere is another blog about a Mom who had brought her son home from
China and they were having poop issues too. I think his was more diarrhea but if I remember correctly she posted about the smell at one point. LOL!! You may already follow her blog but if not it might be worth reading and possibly emailing her. LOL!!
I did go look at your blog list and I did not see her blog listed on it.
I am not in the habit of giving other peoples blog addresses out, but since this is in a comment I feel it is better, and she might could help some so here is her blog address: http://brysonmakes8.blogspot.com/

Funny post! Brings back memories! My son was an "artist" as well. Even today (at 8 years old) if he gets it on his hands he 'paints' with it. It was a LONG process until he stopped that. I feel for you.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a beautiful family. I always thought Micah was such a cutie. I'm so glad he found a great family.
