Today I'm having the first cup of coffee I've had in weeks, aside from the occasional hot chocolate from Starbucks. And even that would fight me. (Don't think I didn't consider putting ginger ale in a Starbucks cup just to have something normal in my life. Pathetic I know.) But here I am, drinking my morning coffee out of my "beware the sleep deprived mom" mug as I check my email. So does this mean I'm feeling better? Yes, "better" is a good word.
I'm still on a full dose of Zofran (for you other prego pukers out there who will understand, that means I'm taking 8mg every 6 hours), and I can tell when its getting close to time to take more. A few weeks ago taking Zofran meant that I could keep down water... and some food, if I was lucky... but still felt miserable. The last week or more, being on Zofran has meant that I'm eating what I want, feeling decent (it doesn't help the fatigue, obviously ;)) and functioning a little more normally.
Today marks thirteen weeks, which means this is the last week of my first trimester. And I'm hoping and praying that the end of this phase is just around the corner. While I really want to savor every part of this last pregnancy, I'd also like to be able to savor my food and know I'm keeping it. :) My plan is to start to wean off of the Zofran this week and start to lean on other "tricks" that just wouldn't work with the full fledged upheaval I was previously dealing with.
And hopefully... I can enjoy a daily cup of coffee. ;)
Hi Amy,
ReplyDeleteAbout 25 years ago I still lived in Washington State and I was pregnant the time before my daughter Katherine.
I was so sick that time that I had been to my OB's office several times just for IV fluids.
But then one day when the nausea and vomiting was literally coming in waves my sister-in law, who is (still) a practicing Naturopath in Washington State called me to find out how I was doing. When I told her how bad I was feeling she asked me if I had any ginger in the house. I told her that all I had was some candied ginger that I had gotten in the spice department of my local supermarket. She said to try eating small pieces of it.
I did and it worked like a charm.
It enabled me to eat other foods and not throw up. After that I was almost never without a piece of ginger to rescue me from the horror of morning/afternoon/night sickness.
Anyway...
God Bless you Amy and I hope that the morning sickeness is a thing of the past for you soon.
Take care,
Paula Kate Meserole
Hey Paula,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words. :)
I did try ginger with one of the other girls... the candied ginger actually! And it didn't seem to help me then, but I'm not sure I ate enough of it to be effective? But I will give it another whirl as I'm stepping down off the nausea meds. Thank you for the reminder!!!
Love you guys so much, hope you and Charles are doing well. :)
